Annual Celebrations in May at The Place at Fifth + Broad
In May, there are two very important holidays to celebrate this month. The Place at Fifth + Broad encourages our residents to take part in celebrating Mother’s Day and honoring Memorial Day.
Mother’s Day was first celebrated in 1908, founded by Anna Marie Jarvis in the United States. The start of Mother’s Day as we know it now was actually started by Anna Jarvis’ mother, Ann Jarvis.
Later in life, Anna Jarvis did not appreciate the commercialization of Mother’s Day. This year, celebrate Mother’s Day the old-fashioned way at The Place at Fifth + Broad. You don’t need flowers and fancy dinners to show your appreciation for your Mom this year. Make homemade cards, make her breakfast in bed, or do some extra chores around the house. Figure out the best ways to celebrate your Mother at no cost this year.
This year, Memorial Day is honored on May 29, 2023. The Place at Fifth + Broad is proud to celebrate Memorial Day as a federal United States holiday that honors America’s military members who have lost their lives in service to our country. Always observed on the last Monday of the month of May.
For a lot of Americans, Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer. Many people attend parades, go to the beach, or have barbecues with family and friends- which can be hosted right here at The Place at Fifth + Broad. But at its core, Memorial Day is a yearly remembrance for those who have sacrificed their lives in the military service.
